About

Indiana Okinawa Community group was born in 1985. In 1994, it was officially registered as Indiana Okinawa Kenjinkai. Our mission is to honor the traditions and respect and be a proud member of the world wide Okinawa family. Our goal is to represent Okinawa well and bring Okinawan culture to the central Indiana area as well neighboring communities. Indiana Okinawa Kenjinkai will continue to instill the spirit and values for future generations.

Our main activities include the picnic in summer, and a New Year's party. We participate in the annual Indiana International Festival and volunteer for community projects, such as visits to nursing homes and area schools for special events.

Because Okinawa is a Chanpru (mixed) culture, we changed our membership policy. Anyone who shares our interest in Okinawan culture, is eligible to be a member of the Indiana Okinawa Kenjinkai. We are a part of the growing world Uchinanchu.
